A lawn edger does not replace every trimming tool. It simply does the border job better.
After edging, a whipper snipper can tidy the remaining grass around objects the edger cannot reach. It can trim under shrubs, around letterboxes, along fence bases and beside uneven features. Many people get the best finish by using both tools in sequence.
